A young man is found murdered and Dr Ryan has to carry out a postmortem on his decomposing body, which appears to show signs of a ritualistic killing. He lived with the wealthy and arrogant Sebastiane Bird who does not seem to too upset at his friend's death. The police find a black magic book at Bird's house but they do not have enough evidence to charge him. Bird has been supplying his girlfriend with drugs she leaves him and takes up with an old flame. In trying to find out about the occult Dr Ryan is passed on to Sebastiane Bird himself by his old professor.
