Description de l'objet

On Membran Documents 233375; 10 CD's; Almost everyone is familiar with Carl Orff's Carmina burana - this extremely popular
work belongs to classical music programs all over the world. The work
appears twice on this compilation: one version was conducted by Eugen Jochum,
who devoted a great deal of his attention to Orff's music. The composer himself
considered Jochum's interpretations to have set the standard for performances. The
second "British" version was recorded with the renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
and Royal Choral Society a good forty years later, conducted by Richard Cooke.
However, the selection of recordings made between 1943 and 1997 make it perfectly
clear that composer, poet and musicologist Carl Orff had much more to offer than just
Carmina burana. Fairytale subject matter, poetry, an insight into Antiquity - all this
was to be found in operas like Die Kluge (which belongs to the most frequently
performed German musical theatre works) Antigone and Oedipus. Even a live recording
of the latter-mentioned work's premiere performance can be enjoyed on this
compilation - and the second and third parts of Orff's Trionfi trilogy have been
included as complete recordings.
